European Private Collection

I have always liked the ambivalent appearance of things: the faux primitiveness, the faux naivety, the faux ignorance, the faux stupidity. For I find everything that appears to be intelligent and technical extremely annoying. There is nothing mysterious about something like this anymore.
Salvo

Salvo belongs to the small group of artists who tackled the crisis of historical-linear thinking in the 1970s by radically questioning the issue of authenticity.
His paintings are not “false” (...) but regressively interpreted and infantile re-creations of the image, conscious “fictions” that are deliberately primitive but at the same time conceptual, in which the old de Chirico (from the 1920s and 1930s), the late Picabia, Carrà and Rosai, are combined with a fauve sensibility and Pop.
