silver, of round form, star-shaped oil container with repoussé grape bearers and vine leaf and grape décor, attached drip pan with gadrooned and partly openwork bar decoration, acorn-shaped pendant, 4 openwork chains with leaf join, finial in the form of an openwork crown with mascarons and leaves, faun heads and sculptural snakes as chain holders, hanger with dolphin finial, diameter of oil container 32 cm, total height c. 100 cm, weight 1728 g, maker’s mark PB = Pietro Borrani, Turin hallmark, c. 1825/30, (Lu)

An exceptionally rare, museum-quality Shabbat lamp in outstanding condition. The master Pietro Borrani was active in Turin from 1822 onwards. A Hanukkah lamp by Pietro Borrani is preserved in the Metropolitan Museum in New York. Completely preserved silver Shabbat lamps from the 18th and first third of the 19th century are among the great rarities in the field of Judaica.
