Excellent sales and strong international demand once more characterised the Vienna Dorotheum design auction on 23rd November 2010. 

Diego Giacometti's timeless bookshelf of bronze and glass, the „Bibliotheque au Mexique“, occasioned a heated exchange of bidding which a bidder from Great Britain was finally able to decide for himself at 110.100 Euro (Cat. No. 35). French design of the nineteen-fifties likewise proved highly popular with a rare large Compas worktable by Jean Prouvé reaching 79.600 Euro (Cat. No. 182), and a number of Pierre Jeanneret designs for the Indian town of Chandigarh selling far beyond their estimates (e.g. Divan, sold for € 27.140, Cat. No. 173).  

Contemporary design is one of the strong suits in any Dorotheum auction: This time, two unusual seat objects finished ahead of the rest, Ron Arad's "Big Easy Mild“ 
(€ 55.200; Cat. No. 184), Gimhongsok „Crushed Love“ ensemble (€ 49.100, Cat. No. 9) made in Korea in 2009. 

Design's finest hour arrived with the sale of Michael Young's „Chinese times“ 2009 wall clock for 17.380 Euro. The clock measures one meter in diameter and consists of a large number of folded pieces of Chinese paper (Cat. No. 2).  

The auction week opened with a successful silver auction on 22nd November 2010, featuring among its top lots a large centrepiece bowl from London, decorated with doves and made by Paul Storr (€ 91.800, Cat. No. 153). Russian silver, presented complete with its own separate catalogue, was highly sought-after, pride of place going to a lidded tankard from Moscow  
(€ 46.660, Cat. No. 368).
