HERALDS OF THEIR TIMES

Dorotheum Auction „Classic Cars“ on 15th October 2016 at the Classic Expo in Salzburg

Heralds of the wild nineteen-seventies including several sports cars and convertibles by the best makers and much, much more: The Dorotheum auction of "Classic Cars" on 15th October 2016 leaves nothing to be desired.

The flagships of the upcoming auction, to be held as part of the Classic Expo Salzburg, will be two beauties from the Mercedes stable: The 1958 Mercedes Benz 300 SL Roadster is a dream car, itself modelled on a race car serially produced as a coupé in 1954, and as the roadster in 1957. The car is in excellent condition, was with its last owner for more than 30 years, and has been estimated at 950,000 to 1.250,000 Euro. A yellow Mercedes Benz 300 S Roadster of 1953, of unequalled elegance and allure, promises to be one of the highlights of the vintage selection – not least because of its rarity. In total, only 203 such convertibles were produced (€ 550,000 – 700,000).

Udo Proksch's Maserati
A Maserati Indy 4200, formerly owned by Udo Proksch as well as by Teddy Podgorski, heads the fleet of cars from the seventies. Udo Proksch, designer, patisserie king, founder of „Club 45“, socialite brought low by the Lucona Affair, liked to tour the country in this epitome of Gran Turismo. The simple, dark-grey metallic body, housed four first-class seats and space for a suitcase. Thaddäus „Teddy“ Podgorski, a radio legend with a predilection for sports cars, also relied on this Maserati (€ 70,000 – 100,000) for a good 15 years.

Wild 70ies
James Bond – embodied by Timothy Dalton – send his regards via a hand-tooled elite Aston Martin V8 Saloon, actor Tom Selleck, also known as „Magnum“, with a red Ferrari 308 GTS (€ 80,000 – 120,000, € 65,000 – 85,000). Distinctive, eccentric, but never out of fashion: What might be said of the Corvette C3 also applies to many others of the models radiating the glamour of the seventies. This is no less true of the Jaguar E-Type V12 OTS, once a whole new dimension of fast travelling sports car (€ 70,000 – 90,000), or the black Ferrari 308 GTB (€ 85,000 – 125,000).

Spoilt for choice
Porsche fans will likewise not be disappointed: A 1971 Porsche 911 S Coupé - then the best car anybody not a race car driver could get their hands on in Stuttgart (€ 160,000 – 240,000) - a 1964 Porsche 356 1600 SC in the irresistible combination of Bali-blue and grey cord (€ 85,000 – 125,000) or the 1970 version with central engine, the Porsche 914-6 (€ 85,000 – 125,000).

The age of tail fins
Guaranteeing that authentic fifties feeling, the Cadillac Series 62 Deville Convertible, became an icon of American style and the star of the age of tail fins, even back then featuring electrically adjusted seats, windows, and rear (€ 85,000 – 125,000). Dating to 1954, the Lancia Aurelia GT 2500 Series 4, was impressive both for its form and function. The most powerful of the Aurelias continues to be particularly sought-after, and not just because it could still take on the Mille-Miglia (€ 100,000 – 140,000).

Approximately 400 items of automobilia will be offered exclusively online with the auction running until 18th October 2016.
