LUXURY ON THE WRIST

Auction on 2 December 2022 with rare watches from private collections: Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Lange & Söhne and Tag-Heuer and many more

Rolex makes collectors’ hearts beat faster: almost a quarter of the more than 200 wristwatches and pocket watches on offer at the auction on 2 December 2022 at Dorotheum Vienna are the products of the famous luxury watch manufacturer. A rare Rolex Oyster Daytona Chronograph (reference 6265/6263, € 40,000–60,000) dates from around 1986. A wide selection of currently very rare Submariner models, such as the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date Submariner “Purple Haze” in gold with a “Purple Tropical” dial from around 1978 (ref. 1680, € 30,000–50,000), are sure to delight.

Watch rarities
Patek Philippe’s Nautilus
is one of the Swiss watch brand’s most famous models. It combines sportiness with elegance. Gérald Genta’s design set new standards - the case of the waterproof watch is modelled on a porthole. A “Jumbo” from around 1980 with a 42 millimetre diameter case will be offered at the auction (ref. 3700/1, € 80,000–120,000).

Watches by Audemars Piguet are also coveted collector’s items. There are numerous models in the auction, with the Royal Oak - also designed by Gérald Genta - in a "Jumbo" version from around 1980 (ref. 5402 € 20,000–40,000) being particularly sought-after. The Lange 1 models offered by the German watch manufacturer Lange & Söhne are considered watch classics: the spectrum ranges from the very rare platinum version (reference 151.025 € 40,000–60,000) to a model with moon phases in rose gold (109.032, € 24,000–36,000). Van Cleef & Arpels are represented by an exclusive ladies' wristwatch with diamonds (reference HH41138, € 16,000–24,000).

Racing Time
Hardly any other watch brand is as connected to motorsport as Tag Heuer. A private collector’s selection, including signed reference books by Niki Lauda, will particularly appeal to racing fans. 24 auction lots comprise the collection, including the "world champion watch" Heuer Monza Niki Lauda with stop function (ref. 150.501, c. 1976, € 2,000-3,000). Starting at 4,000 to 6,000 euros, a Heuer Skipper Chronograph for sailing (ref. 15640, c. 1980) and a rare Autavia GMT Chronograph with second time display (ref. 11630, c. 1975) will start the auction.
