"SELECTED BY HOHENLOHE"

Interior design specialist Phillip Hohenlohe arranges pictures, furniture and décor in Dorotheum: auction on 14 March 2018

Shake off the static mood and bring the room to life! This is the credo of interior designer Philip Hohenlohe. Using pictures, photos and furniture on offer by Dorotheum, Hohenlohe realizes his creative ideas in the upcoming auction “Selected by Hohenlohe” on 14 March 2018.

After having previously focused on historicism, Hohenlohe’s new focus is on classical modernism. He combines classicist objects which both juxtapose and complement each other. “So that they create a certain tension which gives energy to the space” writes the designer. “It is very important however, to maintain the quality and serenity that is essential to the mood and atmosphere of a room.” With the use of light and colour, he creates atmospheric worlds into which your own designs will also fit.

In the auction, Hohenlohe also included works by Italian designer Aldo Tura, combining Art Deco aesthetics and minimalism with experimental craftsmanship. He also incorporated abstract oil paintings by Vienna born, Trudi Gill, who trained under illustrator George Grosz in New York and was featured in  Harpers Magazine.

Good style doesn’t always mean high costs! Some of the selected auction items can be bought for only a few hundred euros.

“Why is something vulgar or elegant? Why do so we perceive something as beautiful or ugly? What is kitsch and why?” These are questions that have accompanied Philip Hohenlohe throughout his life. Based on Hohenlohe's spatial conceptions, basic questions of aesthetics can be re-examined, inspired and broadened.
