SISI FROM HEAD TO TOE

Umbrella and shoes from Empress Elisabeth successfully auctioned at Dorotheum’s Imperial Court Memorabilia auction.


The hype surrounding Empress Elisabeth is unbroken - Sisi's reputation hails as far as Asia. As a result, items from the personal belongings of the legendary Empress were sold at the Imperial Court Memorabilia auction at Dorotheum on 18 June, 2018. The Schloss Schönbrunn Kultur- und Betriebsgesellschaft was set on Sisi from head to toe, buying her black satin shoes and her black silk parasol for 21,250 and 18,750 euros and bringing them home to Schönbrunn Palace.
 
Artefacts from the personal belongings of Emperor Franz Joseph were almost as popular among the collectors. The slippers made of the finest leather for the Emperor, confirmed by the Emperor’s valet Eugen Ketterl, found new owners for 11,250 and 6,250 euros. The title lot of the auction, the outstanding portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I on horseback, by Julius von Blaas, sold for 22,500 euros.
