SHINING PRICE FOR HABSBURG DIADEM

Jewellery Auction at Dorotheum: 186,000 Euro for wedding diadem once owned by Sisi’s granddaughter

A diadem owned by the house of Habsburg went up for sale at Dorotheum’s jewellery auction on October 24th, 2018. The piece was originally gifted by Sisi’s beloved daughter Marie Valerie to her own daughter Hedwig for her wedding. Bidding climbed to an incredible 186,000 Euro.

Inlaid with diamonds totaling c. 40 ct., the diadem can be divided into seven brooches and was designed by court jeweler A. E. Köchert. 100 years after Hedwig’s wedding to Bernhard Graf zu Stolberg-Stolberg, the diadem was bought by a successful telephone bidder.
