Bidding bonanza at Dorotheum sale of rare scooters, micro- and bubble cars

A total of 129 rare post-war scooters, micro- and bubble cars were up for grabs at Dorotheum's special RRR Collection auction on July 10, 2020. The international run-up interest had been colossal, and as it turned out every last vehicle from the historic collection – until recently on exhibition at the Eggenburg Museum in Lower Austria – found new owners at the auction, most of them at record selling prices.

For instance the 1963-manufactured Peel P. 50. It has been dubbed the world's smallest car. Only 47 of them were ever built. This exclusive piece of British automotive history ended up securing a sensational selling price of 85,100 euros, while its slightly larger sister, the Peel Trident, sold at a whopping 66,700 euros.

The German-manufactured Messerschmidt KR 175 from 1954 caused somewhat of a bidding war. Eventually, a personally attending bidder managed to fend off strong competition on the phone lines with an impressive winning bid of 36,800 euros.

All Puch models on offer also overshot the price expectations by a wide margin. The 1958-manufactured Steyr Puch 500 Fiat, for example, sold at 32,200 euros while a gorgeous BMW 600 attracted a winning bid of 35,650 euros.

The absolute highlight among the two-wheelers turned out to be a black and white Josef Walter & Co. Colibri '54 from 1956. With a hammer price of 8,970 euros, it set out from Dorotheum's Classic Motor Vehicles branch in Vienna Vösendorf for a new home in the US.

In all aspects the RRR Collection auction turned was a great success that demonstrated once again that Dorotheum strong international standing in the Classic Motor Vehicles segment!
