Classic Cars | October 2015 | 1963 Shelby Cobra 289 Mk. I

On 17th October 2015, a very special piece of automobile history went up on the block at Dorotheum’s classic car auction at Classic Expo Salzburg: a 1963 Shelby Cobra 289 Mk. I. This was the first Cobra ever made that was not painted red, white or black, but a beautiful bright “Guardsman Blue” - a colour that would later adorn all Shelby race cars. This Shelby Cobra had only been driven 9.673 miles at the time of auction! Most likely because it spent most of its automobile life in the caring hands of Mrs Rozella Ruch, who brought her beloved roadster with her to Hawaii when moving there in the early 1970s and kept it until her death in 1987.
