Maria Lassnig | Contemporary Art, 23 June 2021

With the painting “Wilde Tier sind gefährdet” (Wild Animals Are Endangered), Maria Lassnig has left behind a visionary work. An interest in animals can be observed as part of her artistic repertoire early on. For her, they embodied the original drives and instincts human beings had mostly lost. As Peter Gorsen remarked in 1985, in this monumental vertical format Lassnig makes […] ‘an allegorical allusion to Latin America’s dependence on the USA’ and  […]  ‘identifies and shows solidarity with the exploited part of nature’. On June 23rd, this painting will be auctioned at Dorotheum in the Contemporary Art sale.
