Modern & Contemporary Art | November 2014 | Expert Interview

Alessandro Rizzi, expert on contemporary art at the Dorotheum in Italy, is presenting works of the renowned Pittura Oggetto during a preview in Rome.
One of the most notable works featured in this sale is Agostino Bonalumi’s “Arancione” from 1971. The unusual almost fluorescent colour of this work is very distinct and was used by the artist only a few times during his career. “Arancione” can be considered a transition painting conceived between the end of the 60s and beginning of the 70s. For Bonalumi the 60s were distinguished by a study of form as opposed to evagination, demonstrated by this use of padding to create belly and pillow-like form. In this case we can see an acute reference to the estroflessione within the use of the so called supporting structures. The artist further developed these techniques during the 70s and right into the 80s as shown by two other works from this sale.

Other significant paintings to be offered at auction on the November 26th are works by Fontana, Scheggi, Dadamaino and Castellani.
