Günther Uecker - vendere e comprare opere

13 March 1930, Wendorf (Germany)

The German painter and object artist Günther Uecker is primarily known for his reliefs made from nails. Some of his works can be classed as kinetic art. He is a member of the ZERO group of artists founded by Heinz Mack and Otto Piene.

Günther Uecker studied painting from 1949–1953, first in Wismar and then at the Berlin-Weißensee Art Academy. He moved to West Berlin, where he familiarised himself with abstract art, in 1953. He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1955–1957, where he was strongly influenced by Otto Pankok. His first nail-relief works date to this period. He joined the ZERO group of artists in 1961. Uecker presented his works at the 1970 Venice Biennale. Several stays abroad followed. He came to increasingly deal with political issues in his art. Uecker taught at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1974–1995. Uecker is now based in  Düsseldorf, Germany and St. Gallen, Switzerland.
In addition to his famous nail-relief works, Uecker also sculpts and designs light installations, kinetic art and stage sets. His sound installation Terror Orchestra caused quite a stir during its staging at the Baden-Baden Kunsthalle.
Dorotheum has sold a number of Uecker’s works for record-setting prices.
