A Russian pictorial plate - "L'himen recevant les serments de l'Amour" from the "Guriev Service",
porcelain, the body with wide and narrow gilt edging, the rim with delicate gilt painted leafy vines, blossoms, leaf garlands and rhombs on a dark red ground, the centre with polychrome painted sylvan landscape, a young man kneeling before a burning altar, in the background a small Cupid, on the left a lady, behind her a large Cupid with burning torch, in the foreground a dog, the reverse side inscribed in black, Ø 24,5 cm

The "Guriev" Service was designed between 1809-1816 by the local sculptor Stepan Pimenov. It was the first official state service of the reign of Tsar Alexander I. and commemorated the victory over Napoleon in 1812. Originally conceived for 50 guests, approx. 605 parts are houses at the Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg.
