Félix Chopin

Félix Chopin - Oggetti d'arte

(1813-1892) attributed to – A ‘tazza’, bronze, gilded, silver elements, dark patina, naturalistic design, pedestal in the shape of a clod of earth with leaves, waterfalls and sea snails, with feet in the form of two sea snails, floral shaft rising to a basin with a lizard, and a bird to each side, height 25 cm,
tazza 25 x 17.5 cm, St. Petersburg, circa 1840/45, (Lu)

Masterfully worked tazza. The unusual, probably unique, tazza depicts a fountain basin with allied motifs. All elements are designed to be lively representations of appropriate motifs, depicted in a virtuoso naturalism. As purveyor to the court of the Tsars, Félix Chopin executed a considerable number of the bronzes for the Imperial court. A rare combination of gilding and silvering on bronze works in the Rococo Revival style was frequently employed for the Petershof interiors. The tazza is an early work by Félix Chopin. Accompanying certificate from Prof Hans Ottomeyer, Berlin, dated 30.7.2011.
