Arturo Ricci

Arturo Ricci - Dipinti dell’Ottocento

(Florence 1854–1919)
The visit, signed, inscribed Arturo Ricci Firenze, oil on canvas, 41.5 x 59 cm, framed, (Rei)

Arturo Ricci was a student of Tito Conti (1842-1924), the famous Florentine master of genre painting. Inspired by his professor, Ricci specialized in rich 18th century interior scenes. These baroque subjects, expressions of what was thought to have been a better time, were very popular amongst Ricci’s contemporary collectors. His works found buyers not only in Europe but also overseas, in the United States of America.
The present painting is typical of Ricci’s oeuvre. The sitters are dressed in superb pieces of clothing, their overcoats decorated with delicate pieces of embroidery. The grand marble floor indicates that this must be the salon of a magnificent Italian palace, furnished with the most exquisite pieces of furniture. Ricci draws us into an everyday scene of 18th century aristocratic life: a lost, desirable lifestyle of refined pleasures.
