A large Burmese ritual bowl made of very high-quality silver. Women take bowls like this one to Buddhist temples, filled with fruits and flowers as offerings.
The present silver vessel features six continuous repoussé decorative bands on its exterior side, punctuated by ten rectangular plaques, each with one embossed guardian lion (‘chinthe’) arranged opposite to each other.
The round underside of the silver ritual bowl features a three-headed elephant underneath an honorary umbrella, engraved onto a round medallion. The three-headed elephant is the mythical steed of the Hindu god Indra. A large, imposing object made of the best-quality silver. With good, old usage patina. No damage.
Height: 11.5 cm;
Diameter: 23 cm (upper margin); weight: 700 g. Around 1900. (ME)
