Necklaces of this type are characteristic of the jewellery worn by Newar women in the central Kathmandu Valley of Nepal.
Made of silver with a rectangular pendant hanging below (10 cm x 10 cm) decorated with repoussé flower motifs. With two hanks each comprising six chains of woven silver wire. At the upper end of the necklace there is a round, flat counterweight made of silver, also encircled with repoussé floral ornamentation (
Diameter: 10 cm). When the necklace is worn, this counterweight sits on the back of the wearer’s neck.
A perfect example of a Nepalese Newar necklace made of silver. No damage.
