Two attractive old chokers made from good-quality silver.
1: A choker from southeastern Afghanistan, Paktia province, from the Mangal Pashtuns. Cast, embossed and with a small amount of engraving, in the typical style. With two rows of embossed cones. At the centre on the front there is a rectangular silver lozenge decorated with red and blue glass stones. Each of the ends, which are curved upwards, features a green glass stone.
Diameter: 16 cm x 18 cm (outside).
2: A choker made of silver from the Swat valley of northern Pakistan. Cast, hammered and decorated with leaves and rhomboid flowers. A smoothed dark blue lapis lazuli stone is set centrally in the middle. A row of round silver plates runs along the lower edge, from which many small pendants are hung on short chains. Each end features a larger round silver plate, is wrapped with silver wire and finishes in a bud that is turned outwards. The reverse of this choker is engraved with a one-line inscription.
Diameter: c. 16 cm x 16 cm (without pendant). Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century.
Both objects in this mixed lot have an old usage patina and good traces of wear. (ME)
Provenance: Viennese private collection.
