A large Yemeni jewellery pendant made from very high-quality silver, probably the central piece of a bridal collier necklace. The front side is richly decorated with bands that repeat the rhomboid shape of the entire object: made of curved, twisted silver wire, granulated silver spheres, small round pieces of smooth, embossed sheet silver, etc. Everything is soldered to a piece of sheet silver (see reverse). Eight eyelets are located at the top so it can be hung on the collier necklace. Spherical silver bells hang downwards from soldered eyelets around half of the piece. A rare, impressive example of the best-quality Yemeni craftsmanship. With old traces of usage. No damage. Probably the work of famous Jewish silversmiths in Yemen, most of whom emigrated to Israel around 1950.
Height: c. 15 cm; width: c. 18 cm. First third of the 20th century or earlier. (ME)
Provenance: German private collection.
