Ethiopia, Sudan: a pair of bangles (2 pieces) made of old ivory.
A pair of bangles made of old ivory that has darkened to a honey coloured shade (ivory naturally darkens with time). In a style common to Ethiopia and Sudan. Both bangles have a smooth surface with a broad, rounded central ridge, but without significantly raised edges. One of the two bangles has an old break (which has been glued). Otherwise both items are undamaged, apart from an attractive, old craquelure and a good, shiny patina as a result of protracted use.
Height: 2.6 cm; diameter: 5.3 cm (inside); 8.5 to 8.7 cm (outside). Between the 19th century and the first third of the 20th century. (ME) ASA
