A small ‘hunting spirit’ of the Hungana people in western Congo. Of lightweight, light-coloured wood, and originally coloured dark brown. With crested coiffure, the arms lying against the body and slung around the large head, with pointed abdomen and standing on widespread short legs. The figure is pierced at the back below the head, to be worn on a cord as a ‘hunting amulet’. Good patina, no damage.
Height: 9 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
