A long, oblong wickerwork shield, woven into an outer, vegetal cane frame. The wickerwork consists of light brown, vegetal staffs and fibres, as well as of black fibres for the patterns. With two vertical, long and braided reinforcing staffs. The shield displays a fine crafted, geometric ornamental pattern. The handle section on the back consists of an extra carved wooden board, with a raised handle for the carrier of the shield, attached to the reverse by means of fibre cords. No significant damage and a good, old usage patina (see handle).
Height: 142 cm; width: 26 cm.

Austrian private collection. According to the information of the consignor, acquired in 1976 in Bukavu, Congo.
