silver, of oval form, sculpted horse heads, the rim applied with numerous allied coat-of-arms of the Bohemian nobility, two handles, metal liner, wood base with silver gilt mount, two dedication plaques, 42,5 x 28 cm, silver weight: 2042 g, maker's mark HG, Prague head-of-Diana hallmark 1867-1872, (Lu)
Equestrian prize of excellent workmanship, for the Prague races of 1871. The dedication reads: "Oracle von Buccaneer A. D. THE MOSQUITO". The winning racehorse, Oracle, came from the Imperial stables and on 30. September 1871, was ridden by the renowned gentleman racer Hector Baltazzi (1851-1916), long-time companion of Empress Elisabeth and uncle of Baronesse Mary Vetsera. The prize was donated by lady members of the Bohemian aristocracy. The applied coats-of-arms refer to families such as Liechtenstein, Waldstein, Harrach, Kinsky, Sternberg, Rohan... Provenance: House Habsburg.
