aurochs horn, silver mount, silver sleeve with two claw feet, opening and terminal with silver mount, the latter with engraved leafy tendrils, the opening bearing the engraved inscription: "MENNE NOMNES", length: 58,2 cm, height: 26,7 cm, Holland, ca. 1560, (Lu)

Early period drinking horn of museum quality. Similar objects in the collection of the Koninklijke Musea voor Kunst en Geschiedenis in Brussels (Doodrecht drinking horn by Master David Reyniers of 1610), at the Staatliches Museum Kassel (Germany, ca. 1540/50, inv. no. B II.90), at the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden (Leeuwarden 1561, Master Albert Jacobs Canter, inv. no. Z2008-032) and at the Amsterdam Rijksmuseum (Bolsward 1609, Master Jan Stoffles, inv. no. BK-NM-11971).
