porcelain, the body with wide and narrow gilt edging, the rim with delicate gilt painted leafy tendrils, blossoms, leaf garlands and rhombs on a dark red ground, the centre with polychromed sylvan landscapes, a young man kneeling before a sacrificial altar, in the background a small Cupid, on the left a lady, in the background another Cupid with a burning torch, holding her arm and pointing at the youth, in the foreground a dog, the reverse side bearing the black inscription, Ø 24,5 cm, Imperial Porcelain Manufactory St. Petersburg, no mark, 1801–1825 (Ru)

The "Guriev Service" was created between 1809–1816 by the local sculptor Stepan Pimenov. It became the first official state service during the regency for Tsar Alexander I. and celebrates the Russian victory over Napoleon in the year 1812. The service originally served 50 individuals, approx. 605 parts are kept at the Peterhof Palace in St. Petersburg. Lit.: G. Agarkowa, N.
