on the left an amorette, holding slates and a pot of paint in the left hand, on the right side Cupid, holding a palette in the left hand, at the centre and at her feet sculpted blossoms, the clock with gilt bronze clock case, bead- and palmette wreath, the facing side and reverse side with glass lid, 2 hands, black numerals on white enamel dial, the facing side decorated with acanthus leaves and rosettes as well as leafy boughs, the sides decorated with acanthus leaves and fruit, the marbled tiered base with beading and palmette moulding, a central gilt metal frieze with sculpted flowers and cheerful amorettes, playing the syrinx, decorated with laurel wreath, lion, lyre, sacrificial fire and bagpipe, all on band of clouds, 4 feet, France, late 19th cent.
