Lit.: VEB National Porcelain Manufactory Meissen; The series of musical monkeys was modelled by Johann Joachim Kändler ca. 1750, based on French models. The male monkeys are portrayed as musicians, the female as singers. In 1765, the monkey orchestra was restored and completed by Peter Reinicke. According to tradition, it represents a caricature of the orchestra employed by Count Brühl.
