with bobbing tongue, head, and hands, wearing garments with similar décor, porcelain, polychromed and gilt, height: 32,5 cm, 30 cm, minor restorations, back of the head of the pagoda with minute chips, Meissen, blue crossed swords 2nd half 19th cent., model by Johann Friedrich Eberlein ca. 1740 (Ru)
Lit.: Triumph der blauen Schwerter, Meissener Porzellan für Adel und Bürgertum 1710- 1815, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, 2010, Leipzig; p 144,.. it was chinoise elements that fascinated Friedrich II. In accordance with his wished, the Meissen Manufactory “10 Bajoden with wackelnden Köpffen a 1 Fuß hoch” (Ten bobbing pagodas 1 foot tall) in late autumn of 1762. Five of them were female and five male figures. They were placed on consoles in the Chinese Pavilion at Sanssouci, where 6 of them still remain. When the windows of this summer dining room are open, the draught moves the figures' bobbing heads, hands, and tongues…"
