Lit.: Porzellan Sammlung Dresden, guide to the permanent exhibition Zwinger, 1998, p 176, ill. and text:
“The signed porcelain decoration makes it possible to identify the style of the Meissen figure and landscape painter Johann George Heintze. He is a candidate for the hunting scenes against the background of a flat-topped mountain in Saxon Switzerland with a view of Schloss Friedrichsburg, presumably restructured in 1731 by Johann Daniel Pöppelmann, and outlined by a wide elaborate cartouche with leaf- and strapwork. The huntsmen group in the foreground bringing down the boar recalls the composition of a copper engraving by Johann Elias Ridinger. The large-scale representation of a huntsman with a slain stag on the reverse side is based on similar models. From 1740, Heintze was in charge of the manufactory's copper engraving collection, which in 1742 acquired ninety engravings by Ridinger. In 1748, Heintze was accused of improper conduct and practising prohibited private painting and imprisoned at the Königsstein Fortress, where he was expected to continue painting porcelain for the manufactory. In 1750, he managed to escape and subsequently worked for the Wegely Porcelain Manufactory in Berlin. Lit.: Porzellansammlung im Zwinger, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, 1988, catalogue cover;
