standing and holding scales in the right hand, wearing a gilt crown and cloak set with gemstones, the exterior with gilt décor and ermine lining, a white robe with gilt chain and pendants, and a gilt cord around the waist, the plinth with gilt edging and 4 purple volute feet heightened with gilt, height: 12,5 cm, minor restorations, Vienna, Imperial Manufactory, impressed Austrian shield, year no. 1850, modeller no. 36 Joseph Schwab 1841–1865 (Ru)

David, first king of Israel-Juda, ca. 1000–970 BCE, and founder of the Jewish dynasty. He built a palace on Zion hill, fortified and enlarged David's city, brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, and proclaimed Salomon, the able son of his lover Bathsheba, to succeed him. He is buried in the royal tombs of Zion. Despite his failings, posterity considered him a 'man after God's heart' and his life served as a prototype for the Jewish and Christian Messiah.
