The Dancer, crystal glass, kiln-formed, signed and dated M. Klinger 1958, height 61.5 cm (Zí) From the author’s estate
After studying at the Glassmaking School in Železný Brod Miloslav Klinger graduated from the Academy of Arts where he studied with Prof. Štipl in 1948. Immediately after graduating he became a teacher at the Glassmaking School located in Železný Brod. In 1966 he ended his teaching activities and dedicated himself entirely to his own free creation. The author became famous primarily for his stylised kiln-formed figures made of crystal glass that he first exhibited at EXPO 58 in Brussels. There Klinger won the silver medal for his figures of Dancers, which attracted attention based on their modest but also impressive stylisation. The Dancer that is being offered is a slightly different variant from the others that were also being made at the same time. From the 1960’s he experimented with the technique of fused sculpture. Especially interesting are the intimate sculptures of simple shapes that make use of fine transitions between transparent colours.
