Zand embroidery,
Southwest Persia (Iran), c. 170 x 145 cm, 18th century, the Zand Dynasty reigned from 1750 to 1794 under the rule of Karim Khan Zand with residence in Shiraz, the silk fabrics with figural designs in the style of miniature painting are among the most valuable textiles, this piece is comprised of three panels and displays horizontal rows with two alternating pictorial compositions - two falconers on horse back, in alternating colours, and a male, bearded figure wearing a turban between pomegranate trees with birds and goats -, the compositions reach in slightly modified form into the border decoration, a rare collector’s piece in very good state of preservation, backed with fine silk fabric.
