Emperor Franz Joseph I King of Hungary – holder of Hungarian coronation earth,
brass, gilded, oval, conical with broad end uppermost, sides with laurel leaf band, engraved monogram "FJI", inscription "BIZALMAM AZ ÖSI ERENY BEN = Mein Vertrauen in die Urtugend", hinged lid in the form of the holy Hungarian crown of St Stephen, decorated with coloured glass stones, height 6,5 cm, base with number and manufacturer’s mark"Szendrik", Hungary, ca. 1867, (Lu)
These holders were filled with earth from the Hungarian coronation mound which had been brought to Budapest from all counties. Holders with consecrated royal earth were borne on the breat, fastened with a cord.
