A somewhat shorter, wider fabric belt, densely embroidered with small, old, colourful glass pearls (see also cat. no. 62.). Only the order of the symbolic motifs is different here: above there are two faces embroidered above one another, followed by a long, blue and red snake. The zig-zag border on both sides is made from alternating, colourful glass pearls, surrounded by a row of stitched-on cowrie shells around the outside. Among the Yoruba people, the owners of such a bright pearl belt could only be the clan chief (or king), high-ranking dignitaries and diviners. The object shows no damage and is preserved in a modern box frame (just like cat. no 62). Length: c. 102 cm; width: 12.5 cm; first half of the 20th century. (ME)
