Mixed lot (15 items): Africa, jewellery made from copper and brass. 13 bangles and two anklets. All cast in ‘waste moulds’ and for the most part engraved. - Tribal Art - Africa

1: Dogon, Mali: two heavy anklets of the Dogon people, one is cast from copper and the other from brass. They are both decorated with geometric engravings (lines, triangles and dots).
2: Mossi, Burkina Faso: five bangles. Of which two bangles are heavy and fully cast from copper, each one with an open fastening, that was secured with a metal pin (the pins are missing). Engraved with delicate, slanting lines and dots, as well as hatched diamond shapes. Along with these, there are three more smaller and open bracelets – two fully cast from copper (one probably for a child) and another cast from white metal and engraved with linear and circular shapes.
3: Mossi, Nuna, Djerma or other tribes of the Sahel: eight small, open bangles made from copper, probably for children. With linear engravings (Mossi? Nuna?) and spiralled outer sides (Djerma?). Two bracelets have an entirely smooth surface (barely distinguishable). All the objects in the present mixed lot show good, old traces of use and no significant damage (only two pin fastenings are missing). Between the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. (ME)
