A pair of classicising vases with 4 polychrome-painted ‘Angelika Kauffmann’ themes,
porcelain, burnished gilt body, angular handles with foliate terminals, rim of aperture with brightly painted border of flowers, mint green rims and fine gilt foliate frieze in relief, to one side, green-painted vine tendrils on hooks painted en grisaille, lower body and spherical foot with acanthus leaf-wreath and chickweed flowers painted en grisaille, rim to foot with gilt beads, to obverse and reverse octagonal reserves framed by palmette friezes in relief, within which polychrome-painted landscapes, 1st vase: to the obverse, ‘Nymphs awakening Cupid’, bouquet of roses, the sleeping Cupid is lying down, leaning against his quiver, before him 2 young ladies, tickling his ear, to the reverse, monument with the bust of a poet, to the base a lyre, a young lady dancing holding a laurel wreath in her hands, a kneeling figure holds a musical score, and a standing figure a closed book, 2nd vase, to the obverse, a dancing Bacchante with a thyrsus in her hands, Cupid trying to grab her by her dress, a kneeling figure bangs a tambourine, before whom lies an empty jug of wine, to one side, a quiver hangs from a tree, to the reverse ‘Bacchus with 2 Baccantes’ dancing, one holding a thyrsus, the other blowing on a keras horn, before them Bacchus dancing with cymbals in his hands, height 23.5 cm, repair to rim of foot, repair to join of one handle, 2 copper inlays with rings for flowers, Vienna, Imperial Manufactory, underglaze blue shield mark, date mark 1797, turner no. 4 Anton Kammerer 1786-1833 (Ru)
