Jacob Degen, 1760-1848, important clockmaker, pioneer of flight and inventor, constructor of various flying machines such as ones with flapping wings, air screws, beating wings, first free flight in 1807, in 1813 flight demonstration on the occasion of Napoleon’s birthday in Paris, inventor of forgery-proof banknotes using guilloché engraving.
