Salzburg or South German area, circa 1600. Made in Untersberg marble, with naturalistic relief carving of a cleric, and with an armorial coat of arms in the lower left corner. 179 x 89 cm. With restored lower ends 209 x 102 cm. With various chipped areas. (DOC)
An epitaph denotes an inscription for the deceased on a grave or a funerary monument which is located on a church wall or a pillar. Some epitaphs are lavishly conceived and unlike tombs are not necessarily at the funerary site.
