Venice or Florence, c. 227 x 66 cm, about 1600, background: warp satin (yellow-gold), pattern: cut pile (wine red); although comparable pieces are mostly available only as small fragments, the present item is preserved as a large silk velvet panel, textiles such as the present one decorate the courts or rulers’ tents during their military campaigns; rising wavy branches with bizarre leaves and blossoms create elliptical shapes with crowns at their intersections, in good condition, mounted on linen and in a wooden frame behind glass.
