South Caucasus, c. 283 x 125 cm, beginning of the 20th century, in the Orient lions are a symbol of power and authority, and high-ranking personalities in Tibet used tiger skins on their throne, until as a result of a drastic reduction in the animal population carpets began to be used instead; tiger carpets exist, besides Tibet, also in South Persia and in the Karabakh region in the Caucasus; here a naive looking tiger is depicted standing on its long side, floral corner spandrel and main border in the polychrome colouring typical of this region, the carpet displays full pile and is in excellent condition, a repair is discernible in the upper left section.
