Malcolm Scott Carpenter (b. 1. May 1925, d. 10. October 2013), US astronaut and aquanaut, on 24. May 1962 he was launched into orbit in the Aurora with the Mission Mercury Atlas 7 mission. On his wrist, he wore the first chronograph to enter space, a Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute. The 24-hour dial was intended to prevent confusion regarding the day- and night cycle.
