South Africa, 2012, bent beechwood, woven cane, steel, recycled plastic winding, height 80 cm, width 70 cm, depth 50 cm, height of seat 45 cm. (DRAX)

A unique specimen in brown. A unique specimen in white is part of the Edelkoort Collection.

Exhibited in: <b/>Totemism: Memphis Meets Africa, curated by Li Edelkkoort, Design Indaba, Cape Town, 2013 – Design Discourse: Austria – South Africa, Cape Town, 2014 and Vienna, designforum, 2015.

Except for the backrest, the basic construction of this chair object is made of steel, which, wound with extruded and recycled plastic, forms the chair’s seat and stand. In an experimental process waste is used as a raw material and in combination with the traditional craft of weaving offers a new thematic and formal solution removed from the stereotype idea of “upcycling design”.
