A “Clam” armchair, designed by Philip Arctander,
1944, for Nordisk Staal & Mobel Central, Copenhagen, manufactured in the late 1940s, stained and polished birch, Nordic lamb (replaced), height 88 cm, width 65 cm, depth 85 cm, height of seat 40 cm. (DRAX)
This model, which is also known under the name of “Muslingestolen”, was erroneously attributed to Martin Olsen for a long time, but was actually designed by the Danish architect Philip Arctander in 1944 on the occasion of the opening of the furniture store NY FORM A/S in Copenhagen. The company had engaged six architects to supply designs, and Arctander was one of them.
