The Kachin live in northern Burma. The Kachin are known for the beautiful wrapped skirts of their women: woven of cotton and occasionally additionally embroidered. The ground colours are always deep, dark red-tones. Small pattern accents create a contrast to the ground colours with light red, black yellow, and a vivid green. In variegated, geometric patterns: points, hooks, lozenges, bands in many variations. At the top, in the middle of every Kachin wrapped skirt a transverse piece of black fabric is always inserted (with older pieces, also woven in). This black stripe (on one of the three skirts, additionally embroidered), is worn at the front of the skirt, in the middle. On all three objects only minimal age-related damage: one skirt shows areas of loss at the front (worn away), while one has a small hole. Dimensions: 65 cm x 146 cm; 74 cm x 134 cm; 76 cm x 137 cm.
