Tibet: A metal vessel in the form of toad, with closure. Made of cast brass (or bronze). A rare piece.
A Tibetan metal bottle in the form of a toad. ‘Toad bottles’, such as the present one, with cover, low base and lateral eyelets for a carrying cord, were formerly used in East Tibet as containers for the local, home-made barley brandy (‘arak’). These bottles were probably cast in brass or bronze in West China and then exported to East Tibet. H: 33 cm; W: 20 cm. 19th century to early 20th century. (ME)
