Yomud Turkmen women’s necklace from northwest Afghanistan or northeastern Persia. The chain is made up of six square silver plates (each c. 5 cm) conjoined by rosette-hooks. Frontally, the plates and rosettes are covered in silver-gilt, into which are chased (with a matrix) ram’s head motifs, tendrils, rosettes. Four hook buckles at the top. With two to three red and green glass stones embedded also in each chain segment. The central round pendant underneath is also cut from silverplate, is radially covered in ram’s head motifs and with thinly chased silver sheet. Gemstones (carnelians and other) are embedded centrally and in two rows by the rim. A rare, remarkably complete and undamaged piece. DM: 12 cm (pendant). (ME)
