Senufo, Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkina Faso: A heddle pulley with stylised female head.
A heddle pulley of a weaver of the Senufo people, with an extremely stylised and abstracted female head, with typical, high crested coiffure. Carved in hard, brown wood and dyed black. With very good, shiny usage patina and scuffing, where the heddle rubs on the inside (the reel is missing). A perfect piece, no damage. H: 18 cm, W: 7.5 cm. First half of the 20th century. (ME)
