We are grateful to Giancarlo Sestieri for confirming the attribution after examining the painting in the original.

The present painting may be compared to a Still life with a pumpkin open, grapes and a peach (Finarte, Rome, 11th December 2008, lot 53). Maximilian Pfeiler was a northern painter active in Rome between the 17th and 18th Century. In Rome he became fairly successful and was mentioned by the biographer Lione Pascoli, who described him as the most talented of Christian Berentz’s pupils.
