In October 1979, Maserati presented the Quattroporte III. at the IAA in Frankfurt. Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the bodywork, in combination with sports car technology, as it was used in the Ghibli or Khamsin. From 1981, this deluxe saloon could also be ordered with automatic transmission. 85% choose this way of combining superior performance with Italian style.

The present Quattroporte was produced in October 1984 for delivery to the USA. A receipt dated to 1993 lists 35,039 miles, supported by later documentation which lists a current mileage of 47,968. In December 2006 the car was being prepared for registration in Germany by the former Maserati importer Auto König in Munich; a receipt listing the work that was carried out is enclosed. The low mileage is matched by the good condition of the interior and the bodywork, still with what appears to be the original coat of paint! After 3o years it is quite obvious that this car has always been well treated. The present luxury automobile only reveals its nature to those who drive, or are driven in it. Luciano Pavarotti and Peter Ustinov succumbed to the charm of this splendid means of transport. Only the Quattroporte offers this particular combination of sports car and saloon, of full leather and double camshaft 8 cylinders. In February 2015, the Maserati was passed muster as a vintage car!
